16,000 Vacant Posts in J&K Health Department: Minister Sakina Itoo

Jammu and Kashmir's Health Minister, Sakina Itoo, informed the Legislative Assembly that nearly 16,000 posts of doctors and paramedics remain vacant across the region’s Health Department. Despite this significant shortfall, she assured the House that measures are in place to ensure the smooth functioning of hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Breakdown of Vacancies

Directorate of Health Services

The Directorate of Health Services in Jammu and Kashmir accounts for a substantial number of these vacancies:

  • Jammu: 980 gazetted & 2,937 non-gazetted posts vacant
  • Kashmir: 420 gazetted & 1,574 non-gazetted posts vacant
  • Total Vacancies: 7,873

Ayush & National Health Mission (NHM)

  • Ayush: 45 gazetted & 190 non-gazetted vacancies
  • NHM: 305 gazetted & 1,422 non-gazetted vacancies

Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) & Associated Hospitals

A significant number of vacancies exist in GMCs across Jammu and Kashmir:

  • GMC Srinagar: 347 gazetted & 1,984 non-gazetted
  • GMC Jammu: 362 gazetted & 1,392 non-gazetted
  • GMC Anantnag: 91 gazetted & 283 non-gazetted
  • GMC Baramulla: 232 gazetted & 357 non-gazetted
  • GMC Doda: 154 gazetted & 225 non-gazetted
